| Activities The Scout Association has defined seven programme zones to use when running a cub pack: 1) Outdoor Scouting, 2) Fitness, 3) Discovering the World Around You, 4) Creative, 5) Beliefs and Attitudes, 6) Caring and the Community, and 7) Global. We follow a variety of activities on Tuesday evenings to cover each of these zones. Our evening meetings usually start with flag break and uniform inspection, followed by a couple of games. Afterwards we may be doing anything: arts and crafts; learning about other countries; practising map reading and navigation skills; cooking; team challenges. The more variety the better! And our cubs are very proud of all the badges they earn by doing these activities. We try to hold meetings away from our scout hut at least once every term. We might go swimming, explore the local area, visit emergency services and so on. We also have occasional activities at weekends. Past activities include: cycling, museum visits, camping, walks in the countryside and church parades. Structure Our pack has 25 - 30 girls and boys, grouped into five teams, each called a six. Each six is named after a colour and is lead by an older cub (the sixer) and their assistant (the seconder). We use the traditional theme of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book to name our adult leaders and helpers. The Cub Scout Leader is called Akela, after the wolf who led the wolf pack that Mowgli joined. Assistant leaders and helpers are named after other characters from the books. Parent helpers are essential to the smooth running of the pack, and all parents are expected to help at least once each term. | |
